At the front of the Brisbane Private Hospital stands a fence dating back to the 1860’s which was once a part of the grand residence of ‘Garth House’, a prominent feature of 19th century Wickham Terrace.
In 2018, McMillan Heritage Plastering was enlisted to reinstate the traditional solid plasterwork of this fence including damaged areas of decorative details. By employing time-honoured methods of plaster repair and traditional materials, the master craftsmen of McMillan Heritage Plastering were able to retain as much of the original fabric as possible and restore the fence to its former glory.
The Garth House remnant fence was selected as an award-winning restoration project in the 2018 National Trust of Queensland Heritage Awards.
